What an open deck is for

The jobs a pantech or tautliner can't take.

Long loads

Structural steel, framing timber, scaffold tube, pipe. Nothing overhead to limit length or height.

Crane & forklift work

Load from above or from either side. No doors, no curtains, no unloading sequence to plan around.

Dirty freight

Soil, rubble, demolition waste and site spoil that you'd never want inside an enclosed body.

Odd shapes

Machinery, tanks, frames and anything that simply refuses to fit through a rear opening.

Load restraint is on the driver

An open deck puts restraint squarely in your hands. Under the Heavy Vehicle National Law the driver is responsible for making sure the load can't shift, and an unrestrained load on an open tray is the fastest way to a defect notice.

Tie-down points are fitted to every tray in the fleet. Straps, chains, dunnage and gates aren't supplied as standard — tell us what you're carrying when you book and we'll tell you exactly what the allocated truck comes with.

Common questions

Yes — it's one truck that's been described both ways over the years. Book the 4.5 m and you'll get the vehicle you're expecting.
The 4.5 m has drop sides. On the longer decks it varies by vehicle, so tell us how you're loading — from the side with a forklift, or from above with a crane — and we'll allocate accordingly.
Machinery movements need to be discussed before booking — it depends on the weight, how it's loaded and whether ramps are involved. Ring us rather than booking online for anything plant-related.
Overhang has legal limits and may require flags or a warning sign. Tell us the length of what you're carrying when you book — that is usually what decides between the 4.5 m and the 5.5 m deck.
